Week 04 theme is “Challenge”

If, as George Carlin said, “An artist has an obligation to be en route”

Please complete this sentence: An innovator has an obligation to…

- challenge the status quo. - Sunil Malhotra, Design and Social Innovation Entrepreneur

- challenge short-termism and unsustainable practices in business and society. - Peter Cook, The Boss – Human Dynamics and the Academy of Rock

- challenge their direct environment, their colleagues, clients, neighbors, but also on a wider plan (government, fellow entrepreneurs, federations…) to look and go beyond the usual. Tine Peeters, Human-focussed design of innovative products, services, interiors, interactions and experiences that create real value

- challenge existing concepts. - Femke IJsseldijk, Creative Researcher

We identify tomorrow’s challenges, often grand challenges, and use technology and art to envision alternative solutions.  Sometimes these challenges occur in prosaic settings, like the household.   Sometimes they occur on a grand scale, as in themed urban developments.   Or in virtual space, where for example collaboration in the services sector takes place.- Excerpt from Innovation: How Innovators Think, Act and Change Our World interview Robert Jacobson, Co-Founder, Chairman and Strategist with Atelier Tomorrow

Innovation is the only key to solving the immense issues surrounding health and medicine, problems which affect every single person – be it physically, emotionally or economically, or a combination thereof. Healthcare and health management are issues that must be looked at from a global, national, regional and individual perspective – in both the public and private sector – all of which have their own challenges, responsibilities and opportunities for innovation.- Excerpt from the author’s essay, Me-health: Resolute and committed stakeholders at the heart of the healthcare industry, from Innovation: How Innovators Think, Act and Change Our World

  1. Circa 2050 – the DIE Paradigm of business. Disruption Innovation Entrepreneurship. A rising spiral that will account for the capital needed by the knowledge worker. Imagine this as the sequence for ensuring the social value of work. Coming to the negative connotation of the acronym – it stems from the philosophy (Hinduism) that the old must ‘die’ fro the new to be born.
